Anita Thaler -- Expert at 1st young academics conference at AAU Klagenfurt/ Wien Graz

Austrian GenderTime team member Anita Thaler, who is an expert in research on supporting and hindering factors of careers in science and technology fields,
participated on 30th September 2013 in the 1st conference on young academics at Alpen-Adria-University (AAU) Klagenfurt/ Wien Graz. Thaler, head of "technology-women-environment" department at IFZ,
together with John Brown (AAU,Institute of Informatics), Matthias Karmasin (AAU, Department of Media and Communications) and Alice Pechriggl (AAU, Institute of Philosophy) discussed about the meaning of career in science nowadays. The round table addressed general frameworks at Austrian universities, but also focused on individual careers in science with potential support mechanisms and obstacles hindering them. Furthermore the aspect of a precarious scientific working culture was highlighted, as Thaler has been part of the working group "Precariat" in the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies (IFF) at AAU Klagenfurt/ Wien Graz.
