With 33 000 students and 14 faculties or institutes, Université Paris-Est Créteil Val de Marne (formerly “Université Paris 12 - Val de Marne”) is the largest multidisciplinary university in the Paris area. Created in 1971, the university offers all kinds of training programmes and academic degree courses, from technological vocational training to top-level research and doctorates. It hosts 34 research labs in almost all disciplines. UPEC has faculties in Medicine, Law, Management and International Affairs, Sciences and Technology, Humanities and Human Sciences, Economy and Management, Education Sciences, Social Sciences and Sport, and Institutes of Technology (one in Sénart, one in Créteil), Urbanism, General Administration, Pegagogy, Delcife, and Ergotherapy. 60% of UPEC students are women. 60% of all the students are preparing a bachelor degree.

Persons involved:

Dr. Anne-Sophie Godfroy  is associate professor at the Teachers Training Institute (IUFM) at UPEC and researcher at Institut d’Histoire et de Philosophie des Sciences et des Techniques (University Paris 1 – ENS - CNRS). Her main research interests are gender and science, methodology for international comparisons, science in society. For ten years, she participates to European research projects about women and science : INDECS, WOMENG, PROMETEA, MOTIVATION, HELENA. She has a long experience of gender issues in the academia with a strong theoretical background as well as a practical experience as gender officer at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers (French engineering school) from 2001 to 2005. Selected publications in the field:

Prof. Colette Guillopé is the transfer agent. Member of various boards at UPEC, elected as Union representative and Gender Equality Officer until June 2016, she is one of the few full professors in mathematics, she has been president of the French association « Femmes & Sciences » (Women and Science), one of the most active association in France for the promotion of women in science, and has been strongly committed to gender equality for years. At national level, she has been member of the CTPU (Comité Technique des Personnels de statut Universitaire: national committee in charge of the regulations applying to academic staff at the Ministry of Higher Education and Research).

Bodo Clavreul has received basic training in social and economics sciences at University of Paris 1. After been graduated from University of Paris 3 and Paris 6 in 2003 with advisor on gender equality degree, she participated to a European research project about women and science (WOMENG) and was involved in national projects carried out by a French engineering school (ENSAM-ParisTech), the association of Elected Representative for the violence against women (ECVF). She has been recruited as project officer since January 2013 to the end of December 2016 in order to support the implementation of the GenderTime project at UPEC and to support the Paris area gender equality network activities.

The members of the « Thematic network on gender studies » at UPEC. The network has been set up to support the implementation of the GenderTIME project at the university.

Its 23 academic including 4 men membership provided support to the actions taken by GenderTIME and shared their gender expertise which cover a broad field of topics going from sociology, research on educational transformation, social practices and governance to research on comparative European history, civilisations and ethnology, as well as mathematics.

They have been closely working with the Upec GenderTime team and collaborated on the success of some GenderTime measures to develop gender studies such as the “Gender at noon” and the Interdisciplinary Gender and Master Days. They were also contributed greatly to the progress of the interviews conducted on career development and career opportunities of academic staff at UPEC.

 

The following are some of persons involved to the project:

Dr. Hakima Mounir is associate professor in sociology at the Unit SESS-STAPPS (education sciences, social sciences, sports and physical activities sciences) at UPEC. She is researcher at LIRTES (Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Research on Educational and Social practices transformations) and her research focuses on gendered differences generated by the family institutions, the educational system and the work, in a comparative and international perspective between southern countries (Maghreb) and northern countries (France, Italy, the Netherlands).

She is member of the “Gender Equality Correspondents” network to support the GenderTime activity in her own faculty ad to help the Upec team for a better understanding of the functioning of the faculty.

She is member of the « Thematic network on gender studies » and has actively contributed to the “Gender at Noon activities” in presenting in public in 2014 her recent book on “The women's empowerment in Maghreb families”, (“Ici ou là-bas. Le pouvoir des femmes dans les familles maghrébines ». Presses Universitaires de Rennes, 2013). She was also very helpful to the organisation and the conduct of the interviews on career development and career opportunities of academic staff.

Dr. Sigolène Couchot-Schiex is associate professor in educational sciences at the Unit ESPE (National School for the teaching profession and education). She is researcher at LIRTES (Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Research on Educational and Social practices transformations).

For the last fifteen years, gender concept is the core issue of her research. This approach allows a specific and an alternative analysis of the objects of study in the field of education and training. Based on this concept, she is focused on the teaching of the physical education discipline (which is her first research topic) as on how teachers appropriate gender and equality between girls and boys education in initial training. She is interested too in the transformation of the teaching practices that may derive, or even in particular issues such as direct sexism or sexism through the Internet on teenagers at school.

She is the founding Chair of the France-ARGEF association www.argef.org created in 2012 and actively participates to the development of gender teaching and of gender diversity at ESPE, and cooperates in the International Higher Education Observatory on Education and Prevention (OUIEP)

She is member of the “Gender Equality Correspondents” network and participates actively within the « Thematic network on gender studies » to the success of the organisation of the two Interdisciplinary Gender and Master Days at UPEC.
